Why your Infinite Campus grade moved
Four usual causes. A teacher flagged work as missing, which scores as a zero. A synced platform such as Canvas pushed a score across. The teacher posted term grades, freezing the number. Or a category weight changed, which moves the average without any new score being entered.
A grade that drops with no new assignment feels like an error, and it almost never is. Infinite Campus is showing the result of something that happened elsewhere, usually in the last day, and each cause looks different once you know where to check.

A missing flag became a zero
Work marked missing is scored as a zero in the calculation. The assignment may have been sitting ungraded for weeks doing nothing to your average, and the moment the flag goes on, the whole drop arrives at once.
Another platform pushed a score
Many schools sync grades from Canvas or another gradebook into Infinite Campus on a schedule. A score entered elsewhere yesterday can appear here today, which is why the change has no matching activity in Infinite Campus itself.
The term was posted
When a teacher posts term grades the number is frozen, and later work stops moving it until an administrator reopens the term. A grade that has stopped responding to new scores has usually been posted rather than broken.
The weights moved
If your course weights categories, the average can shift with no new score at all: adding the first test to an empty test category suddenly gives that category its full share of the grade.
How to tell which one it was
Open the course and read the assignment list rather than the headline number. A newly flagged missing item, a score you recognise from another platform, or a frozen term will each be visible there.

- Open the course whose grade moved
- Look for a newly missing flag or a score you have seen on another platform
- Check whether the category weights explain the size of the change
- If none of it fits, message the teacher naming the assignment and the date
